New York Times Executive Suite column “Where is FDR When We Need Him?” by Joe Nocera mentioned steps to solve the credit crisis suggested by Malay Bansal. The two page document with suggested steps was posted on the NY Times website (available here). The suggestions were written after the original TARP plan was announced by then Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson. The new idea in suggestions was that the government would be more effective if it provided financing to private buyers rather than buying assets itself. That idea was adopted when TALF and PPIP programs were announced several months later (see Public-Private Investment Fund in Fact Sheet from Treasury’s 10 Feb 2009 announcement of Financial Stability Plan).
